2016 Acura ILX Smart key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in Surfers Point in Ventura, an ILX owner was dealing with the kind of morning that starts bad and gets worse. His 2016 gave him "Key Not Detected" on the dash. Push button did nothing. Door handle touch unlock, nothing. He tried both fobs, Driver 1 and Driver 2. Same result from each one.
He had already swapped the CR2032 in one of them. Still dead air.
I got there and checked the obvious stuff first. Both fobs had fresh batteries seated correctly, positive side up, contacts clean. So the problem was deeper than a coin cell. I connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port under the dash and pulled into the immobilizer system. The keyless access module had dropped communication with the fobs. No stored codes pointing to a wiring fault or a bad antenna ring, just a system that needed to be re-registered.
I ran the key registration sequence, which on these has a timed security countdown you just have to wait through. Registered both the 72147-TZ3-A51 and the A61 so his Driver 1 and Driver 2 memory settings would still track correctly with seats and mirrors.
Then testing. Every button on both fobs. Remote range from 30 feet out. Handle touch unlock on the driver door. Push button start, three clean cycles. Trunk release. He stood there watching the whole thing and said nothing until the third start, then just nodded like the car had finally apologized to him.
He didn't need a tow to the dealer and a week without his car. Just a re-register, done at the curb.
