2022 Acura ILX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A food truck owner working the farmers market near Rincon Point was convinced his 2022 Acura ILX had to go to the dealer for a replacement smart key. The salesperson who sold him the car told him that. Some forum posts he found online said the same thing. Smart key, dealer only, end of story. That was his whole understanding of the situation.
I met him between the lunch rush and the afternoon lull. His ILX was parked in the same spot it had been all day. I pulled up the fob specs, confirmed what I needed through the OBD port with my diagnostic equipment, and had a matched, programmed replacement in his hand without moving the car out of its parking spot.
The part that took the longest was the part that actually matters: testing. Lock, unlock, the other two buttons. Door handle touch-to-unlock on both sides. Start button, engine off, engine on again. Walk-away auto lock behavior. I ran every function the way I always do, because that is where a shortcut would eventually show up as a callback.
He watched the whole thing from about four feet away, leaning against his truck. When everything checked out, he just nodded and said he wished he had called weeks ago. He had been borrowing his wife's car on market days because he was down to one working fob and did not want to risk it. The dealer wanted a weekday appointment, a repair order, and a chunk of his afternoon. I was done before his next customer walked up.
