In Ventura, down at Ventura Pier, a property manager met me outside her leasing office with the ILX running and a look that said she'd already paid for this lesson once.
She had clicked one of those too-cheap ads. The guy got the car to start, but the remote side was basically dead. No lock, no unlock, trunk wouldn't pop, panic did nothing. She was doing everything by the metal insert key and climbing in like it was a 2004.
First thing she asked was how she could tell I wasn't the same kind of problem. I gave her my BSIS license number, LCO 6792, and told her to look it up before I touched the car.
I plugged into the DLC and ran the smart key registration through the immobilizer module the right way. On these ILX units the transmitter side and the engine start authorization are handled through the same IMOES (Immobilizer and Smart Entry) system on the body controller, board 38320-TX6. If both sides don't agree, you end up with exactly that half-working key situation she walked into.
Then I did the part nobody thinks matters: walking every door, testing lock, unlock, trunk release, and confirming the push-button start sees the fob each time from inside the cabin.
When the buttons all started responding, she stopped hovering over my shoulder and just exhaled.
