Rincon Beach Park call in Carpinteria. A 2020 Acura ILX, push-button start, doing that annoying half-fail thing. Doors would unlock from the handle, then the dash would light up the Keyless Access System indicator and the START button would flat out ignore the fob.
Owner had already swapped in a fresh CR2032. Classic first move.
I ran through the basics on arrival: does it fail on both door handles, does the trunk release respond, does the car wake up if you hold the fob right against the START button. That last one worked. So the fob was broadcasting, just weak.
Popped the KR580399900 open on the hood where she could see it. Battery was new, but it was floating because the contact clips were spread just enough to lose solid contact. That makes the two-way 902 MHz board brown out under load, so every button press looks like a different problem.
Quick tweak on the clips, cleaned the contact surfaces, seated the CR2032 flat. Then the part that actually proves anything: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and start cycles, plus a walk around both doors checking the touch sensors. When everything behaved three times in a row, she just stared at the dash for a second, waiting for it to change its mind.
She didn't need a new smart key. Dealer quote was still pulled up on her phone, but we were already done.
