2015 Acura ILX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you erase lost or stolen keys from my ILX so they no longer start the car?

Yes. A full re-registration wipes every previously stored fob from the vehicle's security system. Only the keys physically present during the new session get written in. Your old fobs, lost or stolen, are gone from the system. One thing worth knowing: the emergency blade inside the fob is a separate story. It can still open the driver's door mechanically because the door cylinder doesn't care what's in the security system's memory.

Q: Does my 2015 ILX smart key have a hidden emergency key inside it?

It does. There's a small release tab on the back of the fob. Press it and slide out the metal blade. On the driver's door handle, there's a small cap covering a keyhole. Pop the cap off, insert the blade, and you're in. Once you're inside the car, hold the fob flat against the start button while pressing the brake.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2015 ILX. Can I program it myself?

No. There is no DIY button sequence or ignition trick that works on the ILX smart key system. Programming requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port to register the new fob to the vehicle's security system. The fob you bought online is just hardware until that step is done. So no, the online purchase wasn't wasted, but you still need a pro with the right equipment to pair it.

Q: My 2015 ILX starts fine but the door handle touch unlock stopped working. Is the smart key the problem?

Probably not the fob. If the push-button start still recognizes the key and the other remote functions work, the fob itself is most likely fine. Touch unlock failures that show up on only one door handle are almost always a sensor or wiring issue on that door, not the key. Wipe the handle area down and retest. If it stays isolated to one door while the other side works normally, you're dealing with a door-side problem.

2015 Acura ILX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Near Pacific View in Ventura, I got a call on a Sunday from a restaurant server who'd already been through it once. A different locksmith had taken her money for a 2015 Acura ILX smart key job, handed her the fob, and left. The car would crank, catch for about two seconds, then die. She called the first guy back. He told her the car had a module problem.

It didn't have a module problem. It had a locksmith problem.

When a smart key registration gets rushed on this generation of Acura, the vehicle's security system can accept the key data temporarily without ever writing it to permanent memory. The car sees the fob on crank, fires up briefly, then cuts out when the security logic doesn't find a confirmed match. That two-second start and stall is the tell. The first tech probably saw the initial crank and packed up too soon.

I connected through the OBD port, cleared the failed key data, and ran a clean registration with the full timed security sequence. Then I confirmed the fob was permanently stored, walked every button, checked the door handle touch unlock on both sides, and tested the push-button start cold. Solid across the board.

I showed her the confirmation on my screen so it wasn't just my word for it. She'd already paid someone else once, and I couldn't fix that. But I could make sure she didn't leave the parking lot wondering again.

Acura ILX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2015 Acura ILX?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you even think about the dealer. All-keys-lost on the ILX means the vehicle's security system needs a full reset through the OBD port, new fob registered, and the emergency blade cut to match your lock. Dealer quotes for this job tend to be steep, and that's before factoring in towing and the possibility of an overnight wait.
