2016 Acura ILX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over at Surfers Point in Ventura, an ILX owner was having the kind of morning nobody wants. His 2016 threw "Key Not Detected" on the dash. Push button, nothing. Door handle touch unlock, nothing. He tried both fobs. Same dead response from each.
He had already swapped the CR2032 in one of them. Still nothing.
I got there and checked the obvious stuff first. Both fobs had fresh batteries seated correctly, positive side up, contacts clean and flat. So the problem was deeper than a coin cell. I connected to the OBD port under the dash and pulled into the immobilizer system. The keyless access control unit, that is the module Honda lists under the KOS (Keyless Operating System) on their wiring diagram for the 38000 series harness, had dropped communication with both fobs. No stored codes pointing to a wiring fault or a bad LF antenna ring around the steering column. Just a system that needed to be re-registered.
I ran the key registration sequence, which on these includes a timed security countdown you just have to sit through. Registered both the A51 and the A61 so his Driver 1 and Driver 2 memory settings would still track correctly with seats and mirrors.
Then the boring part. Every button on both fobs. Remote range from about 30 feet out. Handle touch unlock on the driver door. Push button start, three clean cycles. Trunk release. He watched the whole thing and said nothing until the third start, then just nodded like the car had finally apologized to him.
No tow to the dealer, no week without his car. Just a re-register, done at the curb.
