In Ventura, over in Mission San Buenaventura, a 2019 ILX owner had already done the classic first move: fresh CR2032. The remote still acted up.
Lock and unlock worked from across the lot. But the start button was coin-flip territory. Sometimes it went to ACCESSORY, sometimes the dash just sat dark. They kept pressing the fob buttons anyway, like repetition was going to fix it.
I ran through Acura's one-push start diagnostic order on site. Fob LED lit on button press, doors responded to lock and unlock. Then the backup proximity test: foot off the brake, press the engine start/stop button, hold the fob against the start/stop button when the MID prompts. The LED blinked, went solid, and the dash powered up. So the low-frequency coil antenna in the steering column was still reading the ID47 transponder at close range, but the RF side of the fob was failing intermittently.
When I split the case, the water detection sticker on the inner panel was solid red. Moisture had gotten in. That fob was done.
I programmed a replacement KR580399900 to the car, cut the emergency insert key, and erased the old fob from the system so it could never start anything again. Then the boring part that tells the truth: testing lock, unlock, trunk release, remote start, passive entry on both front handles, and Walk Away Auto Lock. Every function, every door, twice.
They didn't need to tow it to anyone. Just the right fix, on site, for a fraction of what a dealer visit would have run.
