He landed after a business trip, picked up his car from the airport valet, and his 2010 Cadillac DTS wouldn't start. The fob was unresponsive. The battery was dead and the backup start position wasn't reading the chip. His luggage was in the trunk and the Cadillac wasn't going anywhere.

It confirmed his fobs were still registered in the body control module, but the dead battery had caused a communication fault. His smart key, FCC ID , was a -button proximity fob that needed a swap, a contact cleaning, and a fault code clear. He seemed pretty relieved when I told him the fix was that straightforward.

He drove home that same afternoon. Total was about 119. The dealer would have been 246 plus $200 towing plus two days before they even looked at it.
