2002 GMC Envoy Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

People lose all their GMC keys more often than you'd think. The most common story isn't dramatic. They just never got a second key. They bought the car used with one key, always planned to get a spare, and three years later that one key finally gives out.

A rideshare driver at the swap meet lot in Santa Barbara had exactly that story. His only key to his 2002 GMC Envoy cracked at the flip hinge and the blade separated from the fob housing. The remote half was in one hand and the blade was jammed in the ignition. Zero working keys and a car full of inventory he was trying to get home.

I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken fob since the chip inside was still intact even though the housing was destroyed. That saved time because I didn't need to run a full all-keys-lost procedure. I extracted the jammed blade from the ignition, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. His fob, FCC ID MYT3X6898B, was a 3-button flip key that I rebuilt into a new shell with the cloned chip inside. I showed him the chip from the cracked key so he could see it was still good.

He went from zero working keys to two in about 40 minutes. Total was around 78. A full all-keys-lost without the broken pieces would have cost more, and the dealer wanted 174 either way. If you still have the broken pieces, bring them. The chip data inside a cracked fob is usually salvageable, which makes the job faster and cheaper.
