Got a call from a pediatrician near El Presidio State Historic Park in Santa Barbara. She had a 2000 GMC Envoy and needed a spare remote and a working backup key. Then I opened up the old fob, cleaned the battery contacts, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and tested all four buttons. Lock, unlock, panic, rear hatch. Everything responded.
For her spare fob, I programmed a new KOBUT1BT through the standard GM remote learning procedure at the body control module. Cycled the ignition, held lock and unlock, watched for the door lock cycle confirmation, and repeated for both remotes so the BCM recognized the pair.
She watched the whole thing from about two feet away. Didn't say much until both fobs locked and unlocked every door clean. Then she just nodded and said, "Good." The dealer had quoted her something noticeably higher and a week-out appointment. This took about twenty minutes on the curb.
