2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A Carmel Valley resident called me on a Tuesday afternoon. She was in the parking structure near her office and her Giulia was showing a key-not-detected warning on the cluster. The fob had been acting up for a few days, she said, but she figured it would sort itself out. It did not.
She still had the one original fob. No spare had ever been made.
I pulled into the structure and met her at the car. First thing I checked was the CR2032. It was the factory cell, never changed, and it was reading low. Swapped it on the spot and retested. The car recognized the fob, but the pairing was behaving erratically and the start confirmation was inconsistent. A fresh battery alone was not going to close this one out.
I connected through the OBD port and ran the key registration sequence. The immobilizer accepted the fob, the start function confirmed solid, and I walked every button to verify the remote functions were live. Then I cut her a second key from a blank I had in the van so she would not be in this position again.
She had been told by a friend to just go to the dealer. The dealer had quoted her several days out for an appointment, and she would have needed to tow the car since she was not confident driving it in that state. She got it handled in the parking structure, same afternoon, without moving the car at all.
That is the job.
