Out in Winding Walk, a woman had a Giulia sitting in her driveway and a fob that had basically given up. She said the car started throwing a key-not-detected warning on the dash intermittently for about two weeks before it finally stopped responding altogether.
She'd already swapped the battery herself. CR2032, fresh from a drugstore, seated correctly. Still nothing consistent. She figured it was the fob itself and called me before calling the dealer.
I drove out to her street, got there in under twenty minutes. First thing I did was open the fob and check the internals. The battery contacts were fine. The issue turned out to be that the fob needed to be re-paired to the vehicle, which happens sometimes after certain electrical events, even without an obvious cause. The car had also been at a shop recently for unrelated work, and something in that visit had bumped the pairing state.
I ran the programming sequence through the OBD port, re-enrolled the fob, and confirmed it on all five buttons, including the remote start function. Tested the emergency blade too while I was at it. The whole job was done at her curb.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her for a new key and a few hours of labor. She didn't need any of that.
