2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a Giulia owner parked near the beach in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. She was getting a key-not-detected warning even though she'd had the fob the whole time, never lost it. The car had been sitting a few days while she was traveling, and when she came back it just wouldn't cooperate.
She figured it was the battery. She was right that the CR2032 was low, but swapping it herself didn't bring things back. By the time she called me, she'd already been to a parts store twice.
I pulled up to her on the street, fob in hand for inspection before I even touched the car. The new battery she installed was seated right, contacts looked clean. So this wasn't a mechanical fix. I connected to the OBD port, pulled up the Giulia's security system, and the fob registration had dropped out. It happens on these cars. The fix is re-pairing the fob through diagnostic equipment, not a new key blank.
Ten minutes after I arrived, the car was reading the fob from her pocket again. Door handles working, start button responding, everything normal. She asked what the dealer would have done. I told her they'd have ordered a new fob, scheduled her for a second appointment to program it, and had her without a car for a few days. She'd saved a good chunk and hadn't moved the Giulia an inch.
