2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy out in Harbison Canyon on a Saturday morning. He had a 2018 Giulia sitting in his driveway and one working fob.
The second fob had been flaky for a while - sometimes the doors would respond, sometimes nothing - and then one morning it just stopped being recognized entirely. The car would show a key-not-detected warning on the instrument cluster whenever he tried to use that fob. He had been putting off dealing with it, using the one good fob and hoping the problem would resolve itself.
It did not resolve itself.
He told me he had already called the dealer. The appointment was two weeks out, and the price they quoted him made him pause long enough to look for another option.
I pulled up to his place in Harbison Canyon with the replacement fob and the diagnostic equipment already loaded. First thing I did was pull the battery from the failing fob to confirm it was not just a dead CR2032 making the whole thing look worse than it was. Battery was actually fine. The fob itself had stopped communicating.
Connected to the OBD port, ran through the fob registration process, and had both fobs recognized by the system and tested inside of forty minutes. Walked every function: door lock, door unlock, the full button check. Everything talking the way it should.
He mentioned the dealer timeline again while I was packing up. I just said we saved him the wait and left it at that.
