2022 Buick Encore Gx
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2022 Buick Encore Gx Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in San Luis Rey, near one of those streets that curves into a dead end against a canyon ridge, I got a call from a documentary filmmaker who had parked his 2022 Encore GX as far into the neighborhood as the road would allow.

His only fob had stopped being recognized. The car just sat there, locked, and the closest dealer told him to arrange a tow before they'd even look at it.

The problem with that advice was the street itself. There was no room for a flatbed to turn around. The truck would have blocked the whole block just to hook up, assuming the driver was willing to try at all.

I pulled up to where the pavement gave out and walked down with my bag. That's the job sometimes. You go to where the car is, not where it's convenient.

I connected through the OBD port, ran the security access sequence, and registered a new fob right there on the asphalt next to a hiking trail sign. The whole process took maybe forty minutes, most of that being the timed handshake the system requires. Once the new fob was paired, I walked every function: door locks, the hatch, remote start confirmation, start button. Everything live.

He drove out under his own power. The car never needed a tow. He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him, tow included, and I could tell the math had already landed by the look on his face. I didn't need to say anything.
