1996 Buick Riviera Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman out in Flinn Springs, just east of Lakeside, sometime after dark on a weeknight.

Her 1996 Buick Riviera had been sitting in the driveway for a week because her only fob had stopped working and she had misplaced the spare ignition key somewhere in a move. She could not lock the car remotely, could not pop the trunk from the outside, and was not totally sure whether she even had the right battery in the fob she had been clicking at it.

She had already driven to a parts store for a new CR2032. That helped exactly nothing.

When I got there, I looked at the fob first. The shell had been pried open at some point, and one of the battery contact arms was bent outward and barely touching the cell. That was probably killing the signal. But she also needed the ignition key situation sorted, so I was there for both.

I verified the VIN off the dash, confirmed the fob matched what the car expected, fixed the contact issue, and walked through the onboard programming sequence to make sure the fob was properly enrolled. Then I tested every button, including the trunk release, before I packed up.

She had not been able to get into her trunk for a week over a bent battery clip and a missing key. By the time I left Flinn Springs, both problems were gone. The dealer comparison came up once, just in passing. She had already looked into it and decided against the wait and the tow. That part sorted itself out.
