2006 Chrysler Pacifica
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long does the programming take once you're at my car?

For the 2006 Pacifica, the actual work runs well under an hour. I decode or read the lock, cut the blade, run the programming through the OBD port to sync the transponder with the immobilizer, and confirm the remote functions are live. The 2006 model year doesn't require the kind of secure gateway authentication that newer vehicles do, so there's no additional overhead there. Once I'm parked next to your car, the job moves.

Q: Can you get the key done faster than the dealer?

The programming step itself takes roughly the same time regardless of who does it. What's different is everything around it. A dealer needs to schedule you, confirm parts availability, sometimes order the key unit, and work through their own queue. If the part isn't in stock, that can stretch into days or longer. I show up with the key already in hand. No scheduling backlog, no parts wait, no service writer between you and the actual work.

Q: My Pacifica starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Does the whole key need to be replaced?

Not necessarily. On the 2006 Pacifica remote head key, the transponder that starts the car and the remote electronics that run the lock/unlock buttons are separate functions built into the same unit. If the car starts but the buttons are dead, the first thing to check is the CR2032 battery. A depleted cell kills remote range and button response while the transponder side keeps working off a different power path.

Q: I bought a replacement key online. Can you just program it, or is there a catch?

I can program it as long as the replacement is the correct unit for this vehicle. The catch is that a lot of aftermarket remote head keys sold online are close but not exact, and if the transponder chip inside doesn't match what the immobilizer expects, the car won't start even after programming. The remote buttons might work fine and the blade might fit the lock, but the engine won't turn over. Bring it along when you call.

2006 Chrysler Pacifica Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A family dropped a pin from a campsite out near Carmel Valley, about 25 minutes outside Del Mar. They were mid-trip in the 2006 Pacifica and the key had gone missing somewhere between the tent and the fire pit. No dealer within easy reach, no locksmith shop around the corner, and the Pacifica wasn't moving without a working key.

The dad texted me coordinates. I loaded everything for his vehicle and drove out.

When I got there, the car was parked on a flat dirt pad next to their setup. I decoded the lock, cut a replacement key blade on site, and ran the programming through the OBD port to register the new remote head key to the vehicle's immobilizer. The whole thing happened next to a picnic table while his kids wandered around in the background.

He asked if I did this kind of call often. I told him campgrounds, trailheads, beach parking lots. The GPS pin is the address. It doesn't matter where the car is.

They were back on the road the same afternoon. A dealer would have meant a tow to a shop that might not have even stocked the part, then a wait. That wasn't the trip they were trying to have.

Chrysler Pacifica Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Chrysler key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Most dealer service departments close mid-evening on weekdays and go dark on Sundays. If you lose your key Saturday night or on a holiday, you're waiting until the next business day minimum, and then possibly longer if the part needs to be ordered. I work outside dealer hours. If you're stuck in Del Mar or out near Carmel Valley on a Sunday morning, that's a normal call for me.
