A boat broker had parked his 2024 Genesis GV70 in the lot near the water and somewhere between the dock and the walkway, the fob disappeared. Best guess was it went into the bay. No spare at home, no way to start the car, and the nearest Genesis dealer was over an hour away with no guarantee they could fit him in same day.
He'd already called another locksmith before he called me. That locksmith's suggestion was to drill the door lock cylinder. The quote was over $600 and he'd be left with a damaged car.
I drove out to Ferry Landing and got to work on site. Using a non-destructive decoding tool designed for the GV70's lock profile, I read the wafer positions inside the door lock without touching the internals. That gave me the exact cut depths for a working blade. I cut the emergency blade, built out a new fob, and ran the all-keys-lost enrollment sequence through the OBD port to register the new key to the vehicle security system. The old fob, wherever it was sitting at the bottom of the bay, got erased out of the system in the same step.
He watched the whole thing from about four feet away, which I don't mind. When the door opened clean and the cluster confirmed the key, he just nodded.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. His original lock works exactly as it did before I showed up. The other locksmith's approach would have left a hole in the door and a bill to match.
