2016 Mazda CX-3 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Fletcher Hills, over off Navajo Road, I got a call around 11 at night from a woman who worked overnight ER shifts. She was home between shifts, not at the hospital, which was the only thing that went right that evening.
Her only smart key had stopped being recognized. The CX-3 was sitting in the garage and she could not get it to acknowledge the fob at all. Push the button, nothing. Touch the door handle, nothing. She told me she had already tried holding the fob against the start button, which is actually the right instinct on these when the battery is nearly dead, and even that did not work. She figured a tow to the dealer was the only move and started looking up numbers.
I told her to wait.
When I pulled up, I connected to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for this system. There is a timed security delay built into the process, so I set the equipment going and we stood in the garage while it counted down. She asked me twice if it was supposed to take that long. It was. Once the module reset completed, I registered two new fobs, tested the push-button start, walked both door handles, and ran the lock and unlock functions before I packed anything up.
The whole thing was done before midnight. She made her shift. The dealer conversation never came up again except when she mentioned what she had been quoted on the phone before she called me. My price was a fraction of what they wanted, and I came to her.
