In East Valley, I got a call from a guy who drives for a rideshare service. He was parked on a side street between fares when the driver door just stopped responding. Passive unlock, gone. He'd walk up to the handle and nothing. He was holding the fob, the start button still worked fine, but the door handle touch sensor was acting like he didn't exist.
He'd already swapped the battery that morning, so he ruled that out. The other locksmith he called first told him the fob probably needed to be reprogrammed and quoted him accordingly.
When I pulled up in East Valley, the first thing I did was walk all four door handles and test every button on the fob systematically. Start button saw the key. Passenger front handle triggered passive unlock. Rear handles, same. Driver front: nothing. That pattern tells you the fob is fine and the immobilizer is happy. The issue was localized to that one handle sensor.
I pulled the handle area, found a connector that had worked loose, probably from repeated heavy use over a long shift schedule, seated it back properly, and retested. Every handle responded. Every button confirmed.
He didn't need a new key. He didn't need a reprogram. He needed someone who diagnosed before replacing anything. The other locksmith would have done a key job on a car that had a connector problem. I was out of there in under 30 minutes, and he was back picking up fares.
