The old fob's CR2032 battery was completely dead and the backup start procedure hadn't worked because the internal antenna contact had corroded from age. I replaced the fob entirely, programmed the new one through OBD, and tested every function including remote range.
From his phone call to engine running was 38 minutes at $293. Dealer wanted $496 and a next-day appointment. Groceries survived.
