2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Can you wipe out lost or stolen keys so they can't start the car anymore?

Yes. When we do a security reset on this vehicle, all previously enrolled transponder keys are cleared from the system. Only the new keys we register at that appointment will start the car. The old ones become useless for ignition, even if someone still has them.

Q: My 2001 Intrigue remote has four buttons. Does my fob have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

No. The Intrigue setup from this era uses a separate key and a separate remote fob. The fob is just a remote, there is no blade folded inside it. Your ignition key and your door lock key are the same cut blade, and the fob rides on the keyring alongside it. If you lose the blade, that is a separate cutting job. If you lose the fob, that is a separate sync or programming job. They are independent pieces.

Q: My Intrigue starts fine but the engine dies within a few seconds. Could that be a key or immobilizer problem?

That start-and-stall pattern is a known sign that the vehicle security system is not recognizing the transponder in your key. It lets the engine fire because the switch turned, then cuts it almost immediately when the chip does not check out. Could be a worn or damaged transponder, a key that got cloned incorrectly, or a communication issue with the immobilizer module.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2001 Intrigue. Can I sync it myself?

For the remote functions only, yes, there is an onboard sync procedure for this generation that does not require a programmer. But the transponder in the ignition key is a different story. If the fob you bought came attached to a new key blade, that transponder side still needs professional equipment to enroll. Buying the hardware online is fine. Just know which part of the job you can handle yourself and which part needs a tech.

2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Westwood, the neighborhood tucked into Rancho Bernardo, for what the owner described as a dead remote. She had already put in a fresh CR2032 and nothing changed. Doors would not respond, trunk button did nothing.

When I got there, I asked her to try the key in the door lock first. It turned fine, so we knew the blade was good. The remote was the actual issue.

I pulled the fob apart on the hood of the car. The new battery she had put in was seated correctly, contacts looked clean. I ran the sync procedure on site, and inside of two minutes all four buttons were working again. Locks, trunk, the works.

She mentioned she had called the dealer earlier that week and been told to come in for a full appointment. She had already rescheduled once because of the time it would take. We did the whole thing in her driveway while her coffee was still hot.

That is the difference. Not just the price, which was a fraction of what the dealer had quoted. It is that she did not lose a morning.

Oldsmobile Intrigue Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you even think about the dealer. All-keys-lost on this car means the transponder memory needs to be cleared and new keys enrolled, and dealers typically require a tow plus a service appointment before they touch it. We come to your location in Rancho Bernardo, handle the immobilizer reset, cut and program new keys on the spot, and what we quote you on the phone is what you pay.
