2002 Pontiac Aztek Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from someone in the Kit Carson Park Area in Escondido. They had one working key left for their 2002 Aztek, and it had been their only key for a while. Then it snapped. The blade broke off in the door lock, not the ignition, which was a small mercy. But now they had nothing.
They'd already called around. One shop told them they'd need to tow it to a dealer. The dealer's service line put them on hold long enough that they hung up and started searching online instead. That's how they found me.
I pulled up to a sun-baked parking area near Kit Carson Park, popped the trunk on my van, and got to work. The broken blade in the door lock came out clean with an extractor. Then I decoded the lock cylinder to pull the key cut, which is the part people don't realize you can do -- you don't always need the original key to figure out the cut. Ran that through the portable cutter and had a new blade within a few minutes.
The transponder chip programming is the part that takes a little longer on an all-keys-lost situation. Connected to the OBD port, ran the sequence, and the immobilizer accepted the new key. Tested it twice, let them try it themselves, showed them the car starting clean.
They mentioned the dealer had quoted them a price that made them hesitate. We came in well under that, with no tow, no waiting room, and no half-day of their schedule gone. The job got done in the parking lot.
