I got a call from someone near the Encanto Border side of Lemon Grove. She had just come back from running errands, walked up to her 2025 Solterra, grabbed the door handle, and nothing happened. The contact pad inside the fob had a small residue buildup from what looked like a previous battery that had vented slightly. Cleaned it out, reassembled, and everything came up clean.
She asked if she should have the dealer look at it anyway. I told her it was fine, but that if she ever loses both fobs entirely, that is a different situation and she should call me before calling the dealer. The all-keys-lost recovery on this vehicle involves resetting the security system through the diagnostic port and that takes equipment and time, not a quick dealership drop-in.
She drove off with a fully working fob and did not leave her car sitting anywhere overnight.
