A customer at her condo in Rancho Santa Fe had her only smart key to her 2005 Volvo V70 crack along the seam and the emergency blade snapped when she tried manual door entry for the first time. Fob housing in one hand, blade stuck in the door lock. Zero working keys.
I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the cracked fob's chip, which was still intact inside the broken housing. That saved significant time because I could skip a full CEM bench procedure. I extracted the blade fragment, decoded the lock, and cut two fresh keys. Her fob, FCC ID LQNP2T-APU, was a 5-button smart key that I rebuilt into a new shell with the salvaged chip and board. I showed her the chip from the cracked fob so she could see it was still good.
She went from zero keys to two in about 45 minutes. Total was around $271. A full AKL with CEM bench work would cost more, and the dealer wanted $504 either way. If you still have the broken fob, bring it. The chip inside a cracked Volvo smart key is usually salvageable.
