The dealer told him three days. He needed three hours. A mechanic on his lunch break at the auto parts store in Santa Barbara had a 2011 GMC Terrain with a key that had stopped programming to the car. GM built it in as a theft deterrent.
He drove back to the shop after lunch. Total was 174. The dealer quoted 369 and a three-day window. The irony of a mechanic calling a locksmith isn't new to me, but key programming is a specialty tool game. Most shop techs don't carry immobilizer programmers.
