A guy heading home through the Upper State Street corridor in Santa Barbara pulled into a gas station and his 2016 GMC Terrain just quit responding to the key. Turned the ignition, nothing. Dash lit up with "Service Theft Deterrent System" and sat there. He swapped in a fresh CR2032 from the gas station rack. Same thing.
He was 40 minutes from home, about 30 from work, right in the dead zone of his 80-mile round-trip commute. Wednesday evening. Dealer closed. Pickups to make, dinner to miss, and the kind of logistical spiral that starts stacking up fast when you're standing in a gas station parking lot watching the sun go down.

I got there that evening with my VVDI2 and a fresh OHT01060512 blank. Popped his old fob open on the hood and found the problem right away. The circuit board had a hairline crack near the battery terminal pad, so the ID 48 chip was getting intermittent power. Not a dead battery. Dead board.
I read the transponder data from his old chip, cloned it to a new ID 48 in the fresh fob so the PK3+ immobilizer accepted it without a full security relearn. Cut the blade on the HU100 profile, tested ignition start, cycled all five remote buttons, and checked range from about 30 feet out.
He was back on the freeway in under an hour. The dealer would have been a couple of days and a tow bill on top of what they charge for the key itself.
