A mechanic on his lunch break near the Santa Barbara County Courthouse called me from the parking lot of an auto parts store. His 2011 GMC Terrain had stopped recognizing the flip key. He already knew it was an immobilizer issue, not a battery issue, because the remote buttons still locked the doors. The PK3+ system just would not authenticate the transponder on start.

Classic sign of a failing Hitag2 chip or dirty ring antenna around the ignition. In his case, the transponder data had corrupted. A fresh OHT01060512 flip key, cut and programmed on site, solved it.
From plug-in to engine start, about 20 minutes. He drove back to the shop after lunch. The irony of a mechanic calling a locksmith is not lost on either of us, but immobilizer work is a specialty-tool game. Most shop techs do not carry PK3+ programmers.
