A long-haul commuter pulled into a gas station off the freeway outside Santa Barbara and his 2016 GMC Terrain key fob stopped working. He was 40 minutes from home, 30 minutes from work, and the car wouldn't start. He commutes 80 miles round trip every day. I used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from his old fob and clone it to a new unit so the car's immobilizer accepted the new key without a full reprogram. His replacement fob, FCC ID OHT01060512, was a 5-button key that I built from a fresh blank with the cloned chip inside. I cut the blade, tested the start, tested the remote, and confirmed the range.
He was back on the freeway in under an hour. Total was 199. The dealer would have been 408 whenever they opened next. When you're stuck at a gas station at 6pm on a Wednesday, dealer hours don't matter. What matters is someone picking up the phone and showing up with the right tools.
