She was sitting at a brunch spot in Scripps Ranch on a Sunday morning, rolling a carry-on bag because she had nowhere else to be. Flight attendant on a layover, and her 2013 Audi A7 was parked a block away doing the worst possible thing a car can do: starting, then dying. Crank, two seconds of life, cut. Every time.

So every time she tried to start the car, the immobilizer checked, found a mismatch, and cut fuel. Classic incomplete registration.
I cleared the failed data, read a fresh PIN from the immobilizer, and ran the full registration with the correct security timing sequence. When it confirmed the key was permanently written, I ran every button on her fob and then started the car twice to watch it idle without cutting. No two-second stall. No warning on the dash.
She asked me how the first guy got it so wrong. I told her the procedure has timed steps built into it, and if you rush them or use a sequence meant for a different immobilizer generation, the system appears to accept it but does not actually write. It is not obvious in the moment. You have to wait for full confirmation before you call the job done.
She saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted her. More than that, she finally had a car that started.
