I got a call out of Downtown Santee from a woman who works at a veterinary clinic nearby. Her 2016 Audi A7 had been done by another locksmith about a week before she called me. At first, everything seemed fine. The car started in the morning, locked and unlocked normally, no complaints.

It had passed the initial registration because the first handshake on these systems is tolerant enough to accept a close pairing. The deeper verification the immobilizer runs over subsequent drive cycles is not as forgiving. That is what had been catching up with her all week.

I programmed a replacement key correctly matched to her vehicle, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and walked every function before I closed anything up: all door handles by zone, push-button start, liftgate release, lock and unlock. Everything held.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her stomach drop. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and the job was done in her parking lot during her lunch break.
