2009 Audi Q7
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Audi Q7 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy had just bought a 2009 Q7 in Downtown Ramona. Used, clean, decent miles, one key. The seller had mentioned a spare would be cheap. It was not cheap.

He called the Audi dealer first, the way most people do. The number they quoted him was the kind of number that makes you sit down. He had just started a new job, just finished the down payment, and now he was looking at a key cost that felt like another down payment on its own. He found me online and asked, half joking, if the dealer had made a mistake. They had not. Audi dealers charge what they charge.

I met him at the gym parking lot off the main stretch in Downtown Ramona before he went in for his workout. The 2009 Q7 takes a 3-button remote flip key, and his was the original, no damage, still reading cleanly. I used my programmer to pull the transponder data from the working key, wrote it onto a fresh blank, cut the key blade to match his vehicle, and paired the remote. Tested the ignition, tested the locks, tested the flip mechanism to make sure the blade seated right. He had a second fully working key before he finished his workout.

The thing he kept coming back to was the price difference. I told him the same thing I tell everyone: the key is the same, the programming is the same, I just do not have the showroom overhead. He saved a good chunk, and now if he ever loses one, adding a key is a lot simpler than starting from zero.
