2011 Chrysler 200
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know I am not dealing with a scam locksmith?

There is a pattern worth knowing. A locksmith quotes a low number on the phone, shows up, then starts adding line items: cutting fee, programming fee, emergency surcharge. By the time the key is in your hand the total has doubled or tripled. Some owners have described paying several hundred dollars more than quoted, and in a few cases the key barely worked when they got it.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

It should, and we verify that on site before we leave. The replacement remote head key gets programmed to communicate with your vehicle's immobilizer and the remote functions get tested individually: lock, unlock, and any additional buttons on the 6-button configuration your 200 came with. The ignition gets tested too. If anything is off, we catch it in the driveway, not after we have driven away.

Q: My 2011 Chrysler 200 starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On a remote head key, the transponder side and the remote side are two separate functions sharing one housing. If the car starts but the buttons are dead, that points to the remote receiver circuit, a failed battery connection, or a damaged antenna, not the transponder. Start with the CR2032. If a fresh battery does not bring the buttons back, the issue could be the receiver module in the vehicle or a failure inside the key head itself.

Q: I bought a replacement remote head key online for my 2011 Chrysler 200. Can I program it myself?

The remote portion of the key sometimes has an onboard sequence that works for re-syncing, but the transponder side, the part that allows the engine to actually run, requires programming through the diagnostic port with the right equipment. If you skip that step, the remote buttons may respond but the car will not start, or it will start and immediately stall. That stall-right-after-cranking behavior is the immobilizer rejecting an unprogrammed key. The blank you bought online is fine to use.

2011 Chrysler 200 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A dance teacher running a studio in Downtown Santee texted me the VIN before I even left my last stop. She had a break between classes, maybe 25 minutes, and she needed a spare key made while she had the window.

She met me in the parking lot with her ID, registration, and the original key already in her hand. That kind of prep is rare and it makes a real difference. Because I had the VIN ahead of time, I already knew the key configuration and had the correct blank prepped in the van on the drive over.

I pulled up, confirmed the key, read the transponder data from her working original, cut the new blade to match, and programmed the replacement. Then I walked through every button function and tested the ignition with the new key before handing it over.

Total time from parking to handing her a tested spare: under 20 minutes. She was back inside before the next class started.

She mentioned she had called the dealer earlier in the week. They wanted to schedule an appointment two days out. The mobile route saved her the wait and came in at a fraction of what they quoted.

Chrysler 200 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Chrysler vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is fully licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and carries full insurance. For a 2011 Chrysler 200 specifically, the remote head key involves both a transponder that communicates with the immobilizer and a radio frequency remote that talks to the body electronics. Doing that job correctly requires the right programming equipment and knowledge of how that system behaves, not just a generic key machine.
