2023 Genesis Gv80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Genesis Gv80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In the overflow lot off the golf course near Ocean View Hills in Otay Mesa, a guy's Saturday morning had already gone sideways before he called me.

He'd lost his only fob somewhere between the 18th hole and the parking area. Checked the bag, checked the cart, walked back through the clubhouse, nothing. His 2023 Genesis GV80 was sitting in a gravel lot and he had no way in, no backup, and no working key anywhere. His plan was to wait until Monday, get a flatbed out, and let the dealer handle it. I told him I could be there the same afternoon.

When I pulled up, the car was locked tight. I used a picks-and-decode approach on the door to get in without damage and pulled the cut data I needed from the lock itself. That gave me what I needed to cut the emergency insert blade for the new smart fob. Once I had physical access, I connected through the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost sequence through my diagnostic system. On a GV80 this generation, that process wipes any previously registered fobs from the immobilizer memory and enrolls the new key as the primary. The car recognized the new fob and started on the first try.

I cut him a second key before I left. He asked why. I told him he already knows why.

The dealer route would have meant a flatbed, a Monday appointment, and a multi-day wait for parts to be ordered. He was driving out of that lot the same afternoon for a fraction of what they would have charged, all in.
