If that signal is weak, interrupted, or the chip inside the fob is failing, the engine management system won't release the fuel and ignition, and the truck cranks but dies or won't fire at all.

Q: Can I program a second H2 remote myself at home?

Not on this one. The 2005 H2 does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for the remote. Registering a new fob requires a scan tool connected to the OBD port to access the immobilizer and key memory functions. There is no ignition-turn trick or button sequence that gets you there.
