South Poway, late evening, a venue lot just outside the area where a band had finished breaking down after a show. The roadie who called me had a 2021 Jeep Gladiator and no fob. Not a dead fob. Not a lost-in-the-cab fob. Gone. Two of the crew had already told him smart key all-keys-lost was a dealer-only job, tow required, wait until morning.
He was the last one left in the lot. Gear was loaded. Truck was pulling out. His Gladiator just sat there.
I drove out to him. The Gladiator's push-to-start setup means there's no ignition cylinder to fall back on, no way to manually turn anything. The vehicle needs to wirelessly recognize a fob that's been enrolled to its specific wireless control module before it will power on at all. With zero keys in the system, it's not going anywhere on its own.
First thing I did was handle the gateway. That step has to happen before my tools can even reach the module that manages key enrollment. Once I was through, I pulled a backup of the immobilizer data before touching anything else. That's not optional on an all-keys-lost job. If something goes sideways mid-sequence, you want that fallback.
Then came the wipe and re-enroll. Old key records cleared, new fob paired, system verified. The Gladiator woke up in the same lot where it had been sitting dead for two hours.
The crew's truck was still pulling out of the lot when his Gladiator started. He just stood there for a second. I don't think he fully believed it until the engine was actually running.
He'd been quoted a tow plus a dealer appointment the next day. What he got instead was a running truck, same night, right there. Smart key all-keys-lost isn't dealer-only. It's tool-dependent. That's a different thing entirely.
