I got a call at 6:18am from a framing contractor parked at a lumber yard in Downtown Oceanside. His crew was already at the job site waiting. His Stinger smart key had taken a hit at some point, and now the fob wasn't waking the car. Doors wouldn't unlock on approach, push-button start was showing a key-not-detected warning, and he was standing there in the lumber yard with a full pickup order staged and nowhere to go.
I was stocked and rolling by then. I got to him in about 20 minutes.
The fob shell was cracked along one edge, probably from being sat on or dropped hard. The CR2032 inside had shifted just enough to break contact on one side. I swapped the battery, reseated it correctly, and tested the fob. Proximity woke right up, start button responded, all four buttons working.
That was the easy version. But I also connected my diagnostic tool and confirmed the fob was still properly paired to the immobilizer. When a fob takes physical damage, it's worth verifying the pairing didn't get corrupted. It hadn't. Everything was clean.
He was loaded and headed to the site before 7:15. If this had gone the dealer route, he'd have been looking at a tow, a same-day appointment that probably wasn't happening, and his crew sitting idle for most of the morning. He saved a good chunk just by having someone come to him who knew what they were doing.
I left him with the fob reassembled in a new shell and a working car. That's the job.
