I got a call from a guy in South Poway who parks in one of those big-box retail lots off Scripps Poway Parkway. He works warehouse shifts, odd hours, and his 2022 Stinger had started doing something specific and maddening: fine in the morning, dead detection by the time he came out at night.

But over multiple drive cycles, the system does a deeper cross-check against what it has registered. A key that was paired with slightly wrong configuration data can drift out of sync. It doesn't fail all at once. It fades.
I read the fob data on site. The transponder configuration was off. Wrong generation data had been written into it. A close match, but not right for this specific model year. I programmed a new fob correctly, confirmed the fob's factory ID matched the dealer part number for his vehicle, tested every function including the lock, unlock, and trunk release, and walked him through the backup start method using the fob against the button.
Worked clean. No gremlin. Just a key done right the first time.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him several weeks out for an appointment and a number that made him wince. He'd gone the other locksmith route to avoid that. He was not expecting to need a second locksmith. That's the part that stays with me on these jobs.
