A Velar owner in Del Mar Heights called on a Tuesday. She'd walked out to her car in the morning and the door handle didn't respond when she touched it. The fob showed a weak-battery warning on the dash, so she swapped the CR2032 herself. New battery, same problem.
When she tried the fob from a few feet away, the car would eventually respond, but only if she held the fob close to the door handle. Touch unlock was essentially dead at normal range. Start button was inconsistent too. I got to her driveway off Del Mar Heights Road with everything already loaded in the van. First thing I did was open the fob and check the battery seating, because a slightly misaligned CR2032 in these fobs can read as low voltage even when the cell is new. Hers was fine. Battery wasn't the issue.
The fob itself had gone soft, the internal electronics were degraded enough that signal strength was way down. She needed a replacement fob, cut to the vehicle and enrolled through the diagnostic port. I had a compatible blank in stock, cut the blade to her vehicle on site, and ran the pairing sequence. The whole job was done in her driveway.
