The chip inside the key head has to be programmed to your vehicle's immobilizer before the engine will run. Cutting the blade is step one. Programming through the OBD port is step two. Yes, that is a known symptom when the immobilizer reads the key as unrecognized or partially enrolled. The vehicle cranks because the starter circuit is separate, but the immobilizer cuts fuel or spark almost right away, and the engine dies within a few seconds of starting.

This can happen after a battery disconnect, after using a key that was never properly programmed, or if the transponder chip inside your key head has failed. The chip is inside the plastic, not visible, and a key can look perfectly fine while the chip is dead.

Before assuming it is a mechanical or fuel issue, it is worth having the immobilizer and key communication checked. I can test that on site in Solana Beach without towing the vehicle anywhere.
