I reseated a fresh CR2025, straightened the contact, and tested range from the driveway.
That cleared about half the issue. The fob was talking to the car again, but the dash warning was still flagging. That pointed to the transponder registration, not the battery. I connected through the OBD port, confirmed the key pairing, and ran through the enrollment process on site. After that, I walked all four buttons and checked the door handle response. Everything came back solid.
He made his appointment. Didn't have to reschedule anything. The dealer would have needed the car for most of the morning and couldn't have come to him anyway.
