A call came in from the Beyer Blvd Corridor in San Ysidro on a weekday afternoon. The owner had a 2015 MINI Paceman sitting in a lot and a fob that had stopped responding entirely. Not intermittent, not weak range. Just nothing.
She had already swapped the CR2032 herself, which was the right first move. Battery was fine. The car was not seeing the fob at all, and when she tried the door handle it gave her a key-not-detected warning on the dash. The emergency blade let her get in, but the car would not start.

The fix was registering a new fob and pairing it to her vehicle. I cut the replacement blade to her car on site, enrolled the new fob through the diagnostic interface, and went through every function before I handed it over. Lock, unlock, remote functions, and confirming the car actually started and held without stalling.
The whole job ran about thirty minutes. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of several days just to get an appointment. That part barely surprised me anymore.
