On top of that, the 2023 Z is not a volume car for most dealers. If their inventory of compatible fobs is not on the shelf, they may need to order one, which can push the whole job to a next-day or multi-day wait. Mobile, I carry stock and do it on site. The process is an add-key procedure rather than an all-keys-lost reset, which is faster and does not require clearing the registry and starting over.

Where owners get into trouble is waiting until after they have lost the only working key. At that point it becomes an all-keys-lost job, which is more involved and takes longer because the system has to be fully reset before anything new can be enrolled. If you have a cut but unprogrammed spare sitting in a drawer, call now rather than later.

The push-button start on my 2023 Z is intermittent. Sometimes it sees the key, sometimes it shows a key warning on the dash. Is the fob dying?

Not necessarily. Intermittent recognition on these is often the CR2032 running low before it fully dies. A weak battery can pass a voltage test and still produce inconsistent behavior because the fob's output power drops under load. Swap the CR2032 first and make sure the replacement is seated cleanly against both contacts.

If a fresh battery does not resolve it, the next thing to check is whether the behavior is position-dependent. The Z's cabin antenna layout means fob placement matters more than it does in a taller vehicle with more cabin volume. Try placing the fob directly against the start button and pressing. If it starts reliably that way, you have a range or antenna issue rather than a dead fob. That is a diagnostic conversation worth having before spending anything on a new key.
