2000 Oldsmobile Alero Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call out to Casa de Oro on a Tuesday morning. Guy had a 2000 Alero sitting in his driveway, running fine, but neither of his two fobs would lock or unlock the doors anymore. He had already done the obvious thing: new CR2032 in one of them. Nothing changed.
When I got there and looked at both fobs, the second one still had the original battery in it. I swapped that one too. Still no response from either remote.
That is when I walked him through what had likely happened. Someone, at some point, had tried to program a replacement fob for this car. When they ran the enrollment sequence, any fobs not present in that session got wiped from memory. His two original fobs had been orphaned. They were functional hardware with fresh batteries and no relationship to the car anymore.
The fix was running the full enrollment with both fobs together on site. No tow, no dealer appointment, no parts waiting on order. I carry the right blanks for these. We did both remotes in one session right there in his driveway, tested every button on both, and locked up the car with his own hand before I backed out.
He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait and a fee that made him pause. He called me instead. That is usually how it goes.
