I got a call on a Sunday morning from a guy parked near the Third Avenue strip in Downtown Chula Vista. He had locked his only fob inside the 2004 Alero and needed to get in and get moving. He had already called the dealer. Closed on Sundays.

Fresh cell, tested every button standing in the parking lot. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic -- all solid. Then I checked the ignition side because the Alero carries a transponder in the key blade separately from the remote, and he wanted to know he was covered on both ends. Everything came back clean.
He drove off with a working key and a working fob. He mentioned what the dealer quoted him for a full replacement earlier that week. I just nodded. He saved a good chunk.
