I got a call out to Spring Valley Village on a Tuesday morning. Guy had a 2000 Bravada sitting in his driveway, started fine, but his fob had completely stopped working. All four buttons, dead. He had already swapped the CR2032 himself, which was the right first move, and it still did nothing.
When I got there he handed me the fob and I could see right away the battery contacts had a little corrosion on them. Not bad enough to see from across the room, but enough to break the circuit. Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032 I had on the truck, and tested range from the driveway. Nothing.
So we moved to the onboard programming sequence. The Bravada from this era has a procedure you can run through the vehicle itself to sync the remotes back up, no diagnostic port needed for the fob side of things. Ran the sequence, both his remotes came back online, lock, unlock, hatch, panic, all four buttons responding clean.
The whole job was maybe twenty-five minutes from the time I pulled up. He mentioned he had called the dealer first and they told him to bring it in, that they would need to order a fob if his was bad, and that he should plan for a few days. He had already missed one morning of work waiting on a callback from them.
He did not need a new fob. He needed someone who showed up, knew the procedure, and did not send him to the back of a parts queue.
