1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: I found a key blank online for the 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Can I just copy it at a hardware store?

You can, if you still have a working original to copy from. A standard key machine at a hardware store can duplicate a mechanical key from a physical pattern. The catch is that hardware store copies are only as good as the key you hand them. If the original is worn, the copy will be worn too, just in a different direction.

Q: How much does a replacement key for a 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette cost?

Call us for current pricing. What we can tell you is it will be a fraction of what the dealer quoted you, and that quote includes mobile service to your location in Carlsbad. No trip charge added at the end. The number you get on the phone is the number you pay.

Q: I lost every key to my 1995 Silhouette and it is locked. Can you still get in and make a key?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a mid-90s GM van is a standard job. The process is picking or decoding the door lock, then using the lock cylinder itself to determine the correct key cuts. From there the key gets cut to spec. No existing key required at any point. The one thing to check beforehand: know where the van is sitting.

Q: My key turns in the door but feels stiff and grinds a little. Is the key worn out or is it the lock?

Could be either. On a 30-year-old van, both the key and the lock wafers wear down together over time. A key that grinds is worth looking at before it becomes a key that snaps off in the cylinder. If the original key is worn thin at the cuts, a fresh key cut to the original code will feel noticeably smoother.

1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A call came in from Bressi Ranch on a Tuesday afternoon. The owner of a 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette had lost the last key somewhere between a parking lot and the house. No spare, no idea where it went.

When I pulled up, the van was sitting in the driveway. He had already called the dealer and gotten the full speech: tow it in, wait for the parts department to source a blank, schedule with service. Days, not hours.

I decoded the driver's door lock cylinder right there on the driveway. The cut depths came off the lock cleanly, and I ran the key on the portable cutter. First try in the door, smooth. First try in the ignition, started right up.

He stood there for a second like he was waiting for a catch. There wasn't one. The whole thing took under twenty minutes. He mentioned what the dealer quoted and I just told him to call us first next time.

No tow. No appointment. No waiting on a parts order. Just a working key before his coffee went cold.

Oldsmobile Silhouette Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette key fob have a battery I need to replace?▼

No. The 1995 Silhouette uses a plain metal key with no fob, no remote, and no battery. What gets cut is a mechanical key and that is it. There is nothing electronic on the key itself to maintain or replace.
