2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: I bought a replacement key online for my 2003 Silhouette. Can I program it myself?

Probably not on your own. These vans don't have a simple ignition-turn self-programming sequence for adding a transponder key. Programming requires connecting to the OBD port with the right diagnostic equipment to enroll the new chip. If you bought a key blank online, you still need someone with the tools to cut the blade to your van and program the chip. The blank itself is the cheaper part of the job. The programming is where the real work is.

Q: How much does a replacement transponder key for a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette cost with EZ Car Keyz?

Call us for the exact number. What we can tell you is it's way less than the dealer route, which involves towing, a multi-day wait, and a bill that reflects all of that. Our price covers the key blank, cutting the blade to your van, programming the chip, and mobile service to your location in Lakeside. The number we give you on the phone is what you pay.

Q: My 2003 Silhouette starts fine then immediately stalls. Could this be a key problem?

Yes, that's a classic sign that the immobilizer isn't recognizing the transponder chip. The engine gets a brief moment of fuel and spark, then the security system cuts it off. It's not a fuel pump, not a bad starter, not a dead battery. Check the dash for a security or key-related warning light when it stalls.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2003 Silhouette. Can a new key still be made without any existing key to copy?

Yes. All-keys-lost is a standard call for these vans. We cut the blade using either the key code on file or by decoding your lock, then program a fresh chip through the OBD port. The procedure tells the immobilizer to accept the new key. You don't need an existing working key for any part of this. Expect about 30 to 45 minutes on site.

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy out in Lakeside Proper. His 2003 Silhouette, the last working key had snapped off right at the bow, the plastic head part.

He still had both pieces, but the chip lives in the head, not the blade, so even if someone welded it back together it wouldn't have held up. He had already tried a hardware store blade copy to get the door open. That got him in, but the van cranked and stalled immediately, every time. He thought it was the engine. He'd been sitting on it for two days.

I pulled up, cut a fresh key blade to his van on the hood of my service van, and connected to the OBD port. Ran the programming sequence. The whole job took maybe 35 minutes from pulling in to watching him drive it out of his driveway.

The dealer conversation came up. He'd called them first. They told him to tow it in and said it'd be a few days before they could even look at it. That wasn't going to work for him. He had work in the morning. The mobile route made more sense, and he saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted.

Oldsmobile Silhouette Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette key have a remote built in, or is it just a transponder key?▼

It depends on what came with your van. The transponder key itself is just that, a key with a chip in the head. It starts the engine but has no remote buttons. Separate remotes were available for these vans to handle lock, unlock, and similar functions, but the key and the remote are two different pieces on this setup. If you just need to get the van starting again, we handle the transponder key.
