Q: Does my 2007 V50 key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. The remote head key on the V50 has a mechanical blade that folds or slides out from the fob body. There is also a lock cylinder in the driver door handle, typically behind a small cover, that accepts that blade directly. Most owners never touch it. The other backup worth knowing: if your fob battery dies completely, the car may still start. Hold the key fob close to the marked area near the ignition or center console.

Q: I replaced the battery in my V50 fob and the remote still does not work. What is going on?

A few things can cause this. First, the V50 takes a CR2450, which is a larger cell than the CR2032 most people grab by accident. If someone put the wrong battery in, it may sit in the holder just well enough to look installed but not make proper contact. Check that the cell is the right size and seated flat against both contacts.

Q: My V50 starts fine but the dashboard shows a key warning. Do I need a new key or is something else wrong?

A key-not-detected type warning while the car still starts usually points to a communication issue rather than a completely failed key. On the V50, the CEM manages immobilizer communication, and a marginal signal from the transponder can trigger a warning even if there is enough signal to allow a start. First thing to check is the fob battery. A CR2450 that is low enough will cause inconsistent transponder reads.
