When a 2016 Chrysler 200 key is done wrong, it doesn't just "sort of work." It fails. The engine might crank but not start. The remote might lock but not unlock. Or the key programs initially but the SKIM module rejects it after a drive cycle and you're stranded again.
An exhausted new dad at the supermarket in Thousand Oaks had a FOBIK made by another locksmith for his 200 that stopped working after about a week. I used my VVDI2 to read what chip was in his bad FOBIK, confirmed it was the wrong generation, and programmed a new key with the correct chip matched to FCC ID M3M-40821302. His fob also had a weak CR2032 battery making the remote intermittent, so I swapped that too.
The replacement I made has been working for months and cost him 95. Dealer would have charged 200. The difference between a key that works and a key that works for a week is the chip inside it.
